Get Indexed, Get Ranked, Get Traffic

You have decided to begin your own online home internet business, and you have your website online  ready to receive visitors.  The next big hurdle to overcome is how to get indexed, get ranked, get traffic!  There is no doubt that website traffic is critical to your business success. And nothing beats free traffic. So where do we get free traffic? Google and other search engines.

How Does Google Give Out Free Traffic?

You’ve experienced this process a lot of times. You load up Google or another search engine. Enter in a word or phrase you want to research. And click one of the links that shows up. Well, the link you clicked on just sent free traffic to that website owner. What we need to figure out is how to get you free traffic.

If you’re like most people you only click links on the first page or two. In fact, the first page of results receives almost all the free traffic. What’s even more amazing is the the first 3 links get more than 70% of the free traffic.

So to get any significant amount of free traffic from Google, you really need to be on the first page. And that means you need to be “ranked” in the top 10 by Google. And this bring us to…

What Is SEO?

SEO means that your website is clearly about something specific, Google knows what that is and thinks others will agree and find your site useful. The formula Google uses to determine this is known only by Google. But there are several things that we know for sure.

Getting Indexed

First, before you can get ranked highly, Google has to know you exist. This is known as being “indexed.” What this means is that Google visits your site and records information about it in their database.

In order to get indexed, Google has to be able to find you. Links from other sites are the easiest way to accomplish this. Since some of these sites will already be indexed, Google will follow the links on their pages and find you.

Twitter and Facebook updates are great places to put links to your site. Because these sites are indexed multiple times every day. So your new link will get indexed very quickly.

Gaining Ranking

After this first hurdle, you need to start gaining ranking. Due to the massive size of the Google database – literally billions of pages – just getting indexed doesn’t do much for you.

There are three components of gaining ranking:

  • Content
  • Links
  • Activity

Optimized Content

This is the SEO you do on your site itself. You need to make sure your content matches the search terms you’re going after. The topic of this article is clearly SEO. One reason Google knows this is because the words search engine optimization appear inside it. But also because other related words like traffic generation show up in it, as well.

You also need to make sure the title tags, outbound links and the domain itself match the topic of the page. Each of these plays a roles in Google determination about your site.

Link Juice

Next, you need to pay attention to the links to and from your site. The links coming in and the links going out are included in this. It’s very important that you have more links coming in than you have going out. And the more inbound links the better.

One great way to get lots of inbound links is through web 2.0 sites. To accomplish this you start by writing an article that targets the keywords you’re after. You have to also write several different versions of your articles. And post unique versions to lots of websites that accept articles. And the more you do the better.

Make Your Site Active

Finally, we know that Google gives you credit for the activity on your site. You can’t just put up a page and leave it alone and expect it to rank well. Google expects you to be updating your site regularly. You can do this with RSS feeds and news posts.

Another great way to keep your page content fresh is to enable comments on it and allow others to discuss your page topic. This means you need to get real live people to your site, as well. An easy way to do this is from forums.

Create profiles on lots of forums about your site’s topic. Visit often and make posts. Always include a link back to your site. This generates even more links back to your site. And it gets people to visit the site you link to.

Conclusion

All of the above is important. However, writing a bunch of different articles on the same topic, creating a bunch of forum profiles. and posting your content all over the web is time consuming. You’re already too busy, so you most likely will never do any of it.

Fortunately, you can get rank builder software to do all the grunt work for you. So, use your time wisely and automate tedious tasks. This way you’ll actually do it. If you don’t do it, you simply will not ever get free traffic from Google.
